I think it's f'n disgusting that all the major networks have tucked away the news that today is the first "Native American Heritage Day" so deep in the news that you would never know it is even happening.

First of all.. our watered down history of Thanksgiving is a complete sham. The least they can do is honor the American Indian and apologize for all the terrible things this country has done to them. I hold a personal type of protest during thanksgiving dinner by only reading an Iroquois prayer and having the table reflect on what this holiday is all about. And hopefully realize that most American Indians take the holiday as a slap in the face..

This is the prayer I read,

We return to our mother, the earth, which sustains us. We return thanks to all herbs, which furnish medicines for the cure of our diseases. We return thanks to the corn, and to her sisters, the beans and squash, which gives us life. We return thanks to the bush and trees, which provide us with fruit. We return thanks to the wind, which, moving the air, has banished disease. We return thanks to the moon and stars, which have given us light when the sun has gone. We return thanks to our grandfather He-No, that he has protected his grandchildren from witches and reptiles, and has given us rain. We return thanks to the sun, that he has looked upon the earth with a beneficent eye. Lastly, we return thanks to the Great Spirit, in whom is embodied all goodness, and who directs all things for the good of his children.
